Do you ever feel like your life is just one great big billboard ready to be read, talked, and discussed by all men! I can remember a time in my life that nothing seemed to be more true! Everywhere I turned there was another memo that seemed to have my name all over it and every action that could have been dealt with so much better had those people “been me”. As leaders we already live under constant scrutiny for every action mostly because most of our actions have public effect or take place publicly. Yet it is important that we live a life on display of God’s grace yet we must not live a life dismayed by people’s opinions or thoughts.
It seems no matter how hard you try leaders live in glass houses. Our families and relatives just by being associated with us acquire the same involuntary level of examination by those around. One of the hardest places to be as a leader is the in between stage of staying quiet or going public when our lives, families or ministries are under attack! So here are my very limited two cents:
Stay quiet when it is something that only will stoke the fire not help put it out!
Go public when whatever it is affects the lives of innocent people!
Stay quiet when you are only subject to hear say or gossip (seek the truth first)!
Go public when you know God’s truth or Word is being challenged!
Finally,
Stay quiet when we feel insecure about it and the only result is to glorify man (or us)
Go public when we have checked our hearts of impure motives, sought counsel and gleaned from those we are accountable too!
So you may be the billboard this week…the top news report…the water cooler conversational piece but know this that God watches over His word to perform it. It may not look like you thought or hoped but He will not let you or I fall flat without picking us up. Many of us are faced with difficult decisions everyday! Here is my encouragement for us…let’s not lose our confidence for it has a great reward!
We would love to hear from you! Tell us what you think.
