It’s been said that God hides things for us, not from us (Proverbs 25:2). We can see this simple truth even through childhood; as a child my parents would hide Easter eggs for me, not from me. Most of the “seek and find” games are just that, they are seek and find.
I am beginning to learn that mystery is not a bad thing. Our quest for answers can sometimes lead us to reject mystery; as a result, mystery is often treated like something intolerable rather than the real treasure God has meant it to be. As Christians, living with mystery is in many ways a great privilege for us. Many times we fall into the trap of wanting to know everything about everything. Or we want to be Gods personal secretary and plan what’s on his schedule. However, if I understand all that’s going on in my life, I have an inferior Christian life.
Recognizing that I don’t have to have all the answers about life has brought a lot of relief to me; at the same time I have learned to rejoice and embrace the mysteries of God. It’s interesting to think that Christianity is called The Faith! The “walk of faith” is to live according to the revelation we have received, in the midst of the mysteries we can’t explain. Many times we dilute our call in order to feel better about the things we can’t explain. We can’t just chase and obey only what we understand. Not understanding is ok; restricting your life to only what we understand is not. Enjoy life and embrace the mystery!
