People buy into consistency! Just think about it, last night my husband and I went to eat at a local restaurant chain; the service was terrible and the food was cold. As we pulled out of the driveway Jason said, “It will take a lot of convincing for us to go back there, they are never consistent.” I know there are some of you reading this blog today that are saying I know exactly what he means…when you are ready to eat a good meal the last thing you want to have to deal with in your day is bad service and cold food…I don’t know anyone who wants to pay for that. Yet so many of us as leaders continue to expect people to show up to our churches and our small groups lacking this very initiative we expect and appreciate about everywhere else we go. At Cathedral one of our main focuses is on being consistent. Don’t get me wrong consistency doesn’t mean the same, it means the level of quality has not been tainted or diminished.
Consistency is built through developing good daily habits and marking your life with a value system. See, when you value something, you will make sure it remains at the level in which you value it…I value baking; so every time I bake a cake it will be the consistent scrumptious delight I intended it to be or it isn’t going on anyone’s plate. Jesus possessed daily habits, so habits are not the enemy to your creativity in fact habits free you to be creative because you are consistent in your speech, walk, and motives. If we say church starts at 10am then let’s start at 10am…making a habit to appreciate others time. These are just a few ways we can make sure people are not leaving our presence or our church saying “It will take a lot of convincing to go back there, they are never consistent.”
